I was born in South America, where mangos were everywhere—on every table, in every home, in every season of life. Their scent, their color, their sweetness were part of my childhood. I remember sitting beside my grandmother in the kitchen, a bowl of freshly sliced mangos nearby, as she showed me how to sort beans and devein shrimp with care and love. That kitchen, filled with tropical fruit and gentle wisdom, was where my passion for food was born.

“One day, you'll cook for your husband,” she'd tell me with a smile. And she was right. What she didn't know was that he'd be my favorite person to cook beside.

The mango tree isn't just a lyric from a movie—it's the root of our love story. The first time I heard “Underneath the Mango Tree,” I was falling in love with my husband. The song was soft, simple, sweet—just like our beginning. It felt like a wink from God that I had found the one He made just for me.

These days, cooking is one of the ways we stay close. Stirring, seasoning, tasting—it's our little love language. Our two boys often join in, and even the youngest has a spark of that same kitchen curiosity I once had. It reminds me that love, like food, is best when shared—and passed down.
